STATEMENT FROM SENATOR BONACIC URGING GOVERNOR CUOMO TO INCLUDE ORANGE COUNTY IN UPSTATE MANUFACTURERS TAX RELIEF PROPOSAL

“The Governor announced his tax-relief proposals during his State of the State.  Included among the proposals was manufacturer’s tax relief, which would reduce the corporate income tax rate for upstate manufacturers to zero.  As other officials from the Hudson Valley have noted, the manufacturer’s tax relief proposal should be amended to include the Hudson Valley as part of upstate. I have spoken with the Governor’s Office, and I reminded him that Orange County and the Mid-Hudson Valley have never been considered a part of downstate.  Many communities in Orange County border New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and are forced to compete with those states, which have friendlier business tax climates.   When you couple this with the MTA payroll tax, which is a sore point for the residents of Orange County; this is like putting salt in an open wound.”
