NATIONAL FLOOD SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK

March 17-21, 2014

Many families in the Hudson Valley know that all too well.  Mother Nature has been dropping more snow and rain on our area than ever before, in such large amounts and over short periods of time.  Our lakes, streams, and creeks can’t always handle the deluge.  Roads, businesses and homeowners are seeing more and more flash floods, and our waterways are overflowing causing thousands of dollars of damage. Families are displaced to emergency shelters, businesses are forced to close, and roads are clogged from traffic detours.  

It’s a serious issue, and one that deserves our attention. 

Since March is traditionally the month where the Hudson Valley thaws out from winter, it’s a good time to devote our attention to Flood Safety Awareness; March 17 – 21 has been so designated.

I strongly encourage homeowners and business owners in the Hudson Valley to visit NOAA’s website to learn more about flooding in New York State at floodsafety.noaa.gov.
