Senator Bonacic Promotes March as National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

John J. Bonacic

March 24, 2014

In 1987, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month,” calling upon Americans to provide the “encouragement and opportunities” necessary for people with developmental disabilities to reach their potential.

To that end, Senate Resolution (No. 3679) calls upon New Yorkers to encourage and  recognize “the abilities of all people, and to take the time to get to know someone with a developmental disability; to provide the encouragement and opportunities necessary for people with developmental disabilities to reach their potential, and live as independently and productively as possible.”

Individuals with developmental disabilities are our family members, our friends, our neighbors, coworkers, teammates and classmates.
