(Albany, NY)- Today Senator José M. Serrano was joined by several of his Senate colleagues in writing a letter to Governor Cuomo and Legislative Leaders asking for a restoration of $92.5 million in the state budget for much needed funding of parks capital projects.
"Our park system is the crown jewel of New York State. The value of our state parks goes beyond the obvious recreational and cultural benefit. They also serve as a major economic generator for local economies across our state. Recent reports of record breaking visitorship at our state parks indicate over 60 million people enjoyed our parks in 2013. But with a nearly $1 billion backlog in capital repairs, our beloved state parks are in much need of improvements and upgrades. Restoration of the $92.5 million will ensure that repairs to our aging parks infrastructure will continue to move forward, thereby ensuring that our parks will remain viable for years to come," said Senator Serrano.
