State Senate Passes Serrano's Dog License Legislation

(Albany, NY) - The New York State Senate passed Senator José M. Serrano's bill S5048, which allows New York City to set its own dog licensing fee in order to better protect the animals that call this city home.

"Make no mistake, this is a major victory for animal lovers across the five boroughs of New York City. This legislation modernizes the dog licensing process, while giving New York City the power to properly protect and care for our beloved pets. I would like to thank Mayor Bill de Blasio for his leadership and my colleague Assembly Member Brian Kavanagh for his steadfast support on this issue," said Senator José M. Serrano.

Having passed both the Senate and Assembly the bill now heads to Governor Andrew Cuomo's desk to be signed into law.
