Grisanti Blasts "State Citizenship" For Illegal Immigrants In New York

State Senator Mark Grisanti (R-I, Erie County) today strongly objected to a proposal that would allow undocumented immigrants to become New York state citizens. The bill, sponsored by Senator Gustavo Rivera of the Bronx, would apply to approximately 2.7 million residents of New York.
"This proposal is absurd on its face," declared Grisanti. "It would not only allow illegal immigrants to vote in state local elections, it would allow them get driver's licenses and become eligible for Medicaid."
"It would also allow them to receive in-state college tuition rates and financial aid," he added. "Will the New York City liberals never learn that middle-class families are sick and tired of funding their politically motivated giveaway programs?"
"This ill-considered legislation would cost New Yorkers hundreds of millions in tax dollars" Grisanti said. "It is a slap in the face to the taxpayers, and I will oppose it every step of the way."
Earlier this year, Grisanti led the successful fight on the Senate floor against the so-called DREAM Act, which would have provided taxpayer-funded college tuition for illegal immigrants.
