“People Helping People: A Celebration of Adams, NY” to take place February 8th State Senator Patty Ritchie will recognize those who lent a helping hand during the fierce lake effect snowstorm that hit the North Country earlier this month at “People Helping People: A Celebration of Adams, NY,” a special event that will take place on February 8th. “Here in the North Country, we are used to tough winters but when a major snowstorm hit earlier this month, people in the community of Adams truly went above and beyond to help those in need,” said Senator Ritchie.“Whether they opened their homes to motorists who couldn’t travel on I-81 or simply checked on an elderly neighbor, their actions are a true examples of what makes the North Country such a special place to live and this event is a small way for me to say ‘thank you’ to the community for their generosity.”Beginning on January 6th and lasting three days, the major lake effect snowstorm dumped more than three feet of snow on much of Jefferson County. The Adams area was hit particularly hard by the storm, which closed Route 81 and caused more than 150 motorists to take refuge in the community. “People Helping People: A Celebration of Adams, NY” will be held on the one month anniversary of the storm, February 8th from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Adams firehouse, located at 63 N. Main St. The event is free and open to all members of the Adams community. Those interested in attending may to RSVP by clicking here. Senator Ritchie is also asking people to submit their "snowstorm stories” and pictures, which will be featured at the event. You can email pictures and stories to ritchie@nysenate.gov. For more information, please call Senator Ritchie’s Watertown office at (315) 782-3418.
