GIPSON CONTINUES CALL FOR REFUND AND REPEAL OF COUNTY'S ENERGY TAX

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) issued the following statement continuing his call for an immediate repeal of Dutchess County's energy tax and a refund to residents for money already collected:

“The Dutchess County Legislature should never have taxed its way out of the hole in its county budget in the first place. Now that additional state aid is being supplied to Dutchess County to bail it out, the county should take responsibility for its mistakes. Rob Rolison and the County Legislature should not only repeal this unfair tax, but refund the money already taken from the taxpayers. Rolison should thank all of us who advocated on the county's behalf instead of pointing fingers.

"In contrast, our balanced state budget includes new tax cuts for manufacturers in Dutchess and Putnam counties, increases in education funding, 18-a utility tax relief and a multi-billion dollar commitment to property tax relief. My colleagues and I on both sides of the aisle from the Hudson Valley have delivered on making our community a more affordable place to live and do business."
