Senator Amedore Secures $300,000 for Salt Storage Shed in Berne

George A. Amedore, Jr.

September 4, 2015

New York State Senator George Amedore today joined local officials from the Town of Berne and Albany County to announce he has secured $300,000 for the construction of a new salt storage facility at the Town of Berne Highway Department.

The facility will support approximately 2000 tons of material and will allow the Town Highway Department to more efficiently maintain the roughly 79 highway miles within the Town of Berne. It will also provide storage space for Albany County that is closer and more convenient to access in order to maintain the highways within the Western portion of the County.

“We experience harsh winters, and keeping our roads cleared is crucial to the safety of our communities,” said Senator Amedore. “This new salt shed will help keep the materials from being exposed to the elements and keep them prepared for quick deployment so our road crews can do their jobs more efficiently. I’m happy I was able to help secure the funding for this important project that will not only benefit the Town of Berne, but the entire County. This new facility will prevent loss of materials, is more environmentally friendly, and will reduce operating costs for both the Town and County.”

"I want to thank Senator Amedore for working to bring this funding to the Hilltowns,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. “This is a great example of how at all levels of government, we share services to benefit the taxpayers. The county is pleased to be partners with the state and the town to keep the roads safe.”

“Securing funding for this project is a huge deal for a small community like Berne, and I am so thankful to Senator Amedore and County Executive McCoy for making this project a reality,” said Berne Town Supervisor Kevin Crosier. “I’m very excited about the new salt shed that will help our Highway Department keep our road materials under cover, and most importantly will let them do their jobs more efficiently and save the tax payers’ money.”

“I want to thank Senator Amedore, County Executive McCoy, and Supervisor Crosier for all the hard work in getting the approval for the salt shed,” said Randy Bashwinger, Town of Berne Highway Superintendent. “This is a longtime coming. The highway employees are extremely happy for the new building which will keep the material dry and much easier to use for the safety of the roads. In turn, the materials will go a lot further and save the town residents money in the end. We look forward to the start of the new building.”

The new salt shed in the town of Berne is another great example of ‘good things happen when we all work together.’ I am proud to work with Senator Amedore, County Executive McCoy, Supervisor Crosier and Superintendent Bashwinger to protect the environment, increase government efficiency and reduce government costs,” said County Legislator Travis Stevens.
