Senator Martins Joins With Mineola Village & Chamber of Commerce in Unveiling New Mineola Wall of Honor
October 22, 2015
Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Village of Mineola and the Mineola Chamber of Commerce in dedicating Mineola’s new “Wall of Honor.” The Wall of Honor, which will be housed at Mineola Village Hall, recognizes those who have demonstrated exemplary service and dedication to the Village.
The inaugural Wall of Honor inductees were John DaVanzo and Lou Sanders. Mr. DaVanzo, who was a lifelong Mineola resident affectionately known as “Mr. Mineola,” served the community as a volunteer firefighter, a trustee on the Village Board and Library Board, North Hempstead Town Councilman and North Hempstead Town Clerk. The wall was named in his honor.
Mr. Sanders, who has lived in Mineola for over 60 years, is the founder of the Mineola American, co-founder and Past-President of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, and a 45 year member of the Village Pool Board.
Senator Martins paid tribute to both men, their decades of service, and the lasting impact they made on the community and its residents.
