State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 to allow the Adams Fire Department to complete an expansion, which will help the organization be better prepared to fight fires and respond to other emergency situations, especially weather-related events.
The department first brought the need for an expansion to Senator Ritchie’s attention following a major snowstorm in January of 2014. Lasting three days, the lake effect storm dumped several feet of snow on the region, closed Route 81 and caused more than 150 motorists to take refuge in the Adams community.
“When the Adams Fire Department opened its doors and filled its station with stranded travelers during the snowstorm of 2014, they not only demonstrated their willingness to help others—they also demonstrated their need for more space,” said Senator Ritchie.
“I couldn’t be more pleased to deliver this funding, which will help the department to complete an expansion that will allow their volunteers to better respond to emergency situations, improve safety and come to the aid of those who need assistance.”
“The Adams Fire Department prides itself on responding quickly to emergency situations when they arise,” said Bob Simpson, spokesman for the Adams Fire Department.
“Before, we were cramped for space and as a result, couldn't operate as efficiently as we would like to. Thanks to funding from Senator Ritchie, we will be able to complete this much needed expansion and improve the services we provide to our local community.”
“Whether it's providing shelter during a snowstorm or responding to a fire, the Adams Fire Department is always there when our community needs them,” said Village Mayor Phil Chatterton.
“I'd like to thank Senator Ritchie for recognizing just how important the department is to our community and providing this support, which will help make the village of Adams safer for those who live here.”
Final release of funds is subject to state approval.
