RITCHIE: FIRST 'UPSTATE WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP COUNCIL' EVENT TO FEATURE DISCUSSION ON LEADERSHIP BY LT. GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL

State Senator Patty Ritchie, along with members of the Upstate Women’s Leadership Council are inviting women from throughout Central and Northern New York to a special event that will feature a discussion on leadership by Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. 

The free event—which will take place at 6:00 p.m. on November 16th at Jefferson Community College—is the first hosted by the Upstate Women’s Leadership Council.  Formed earlier this year, the group, which is comprised of local leaders and is led by Senator Ritchie, along with Rep. Elise Stefanik and Jefferson County District Attorney Cindy Intschert, aims to increase opportunities for the personal and professional advancement of women throughout the Central and Northern New York regions. 

“For the past several months, I’ve been working with other local leaders to lay the groundwork for the Upstate Women’s Leadership Council’s first event,” said Senator Ritchie.

“With her experience including everything from time spent as County Clerk to her role today as the Lieutenant Governor of New York State, Lt. Governor Hochul has a wealth of experience that she can share and I’m excited that the women of our region will be able to hear her thoughts on how to succeed and become a leader in their own lives.”

“Groups like the Upstate Women’s Leadership Council are a springboard for women who are looking to break that glass ceiling and become leaders in their chosen field,” said Lt. Governor Hochul. “I’m looking forward to taking part in this event and sharing some of my experiences, which I’m hopeful will resonate with women in a way that inspires them to go above and beyond to achieve success.”

Prior to taking office in January 2015, Lt. Governor Hochul was as a Group Vice President for Strategic Relationships at M&T Bank, serving as liaison for community matters and significant economic development projects. From 2011 to 2013, Hochul served in the House of Representatives from New York’s 26th  Congressional District. Prior to her time in Congress, she was the highest-ranking female elected official in Erie County while serving as County Clerk from 2007 to 2011. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and a J.D. from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

Following the Lt. Governor’s keynote, attendees will be invited to join in a  “Mentoring Mixer,” where they will be able to network with members of the Upstate Women’s Leadership Council and enjoy refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, at the event, local women nominated to be recognized for their leadership will be honored.
