$15 Fee to be Waived at St. Lawrence County Events Taking Place During “Earth Week”
State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding St. Lawrence County residents that as part of Earth Week, she will be hosting two free waste tire drop-off events on Saturday, April 25th.
Being made possible with special funding secured by Senator Ritchie in the State Budget, the events—which are aimed at cleaning up the county, protecting the environment and stopping the spread of illnesses—are being hosted in conjunction with the St. Lawrence County Highway Department. In addition to this weekend’s events, Senator Ritchie will also host free tire drop-offs on May 9th.
“Across our region, many people are celebrating Earth Week by making an extra effort to tidy up their yards and get rid of waste and debris that pollutes our planet,” said Senator Ritchie.
“Often times, however, disposing of certain items—like tires—can be expensive. My free waste tire disposal events will allow people to get rid of tires responsibly, at no cost, without harming the environment. These events will also help to cut down on illnesses, as waste tires often act as breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes.”
Waste tires will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the following locations:
Saturday April 25th:
- Canton Human Services Parking Lot, located at 80 State Highway 310
- Massena Transfer Station, located at 49 Dump Road (off of State Route 420)
Saturday May 9th:
- Gouverneur Transfer Station, located at 1831 State Highway 11
- Ogdensburg Transfer Station, located at 522 County Route 28A
Each household will be permitted to dispose of up to eight tires, up to 44 inches in diameter each, with the usual $15 fee being waived. Please note tractor tires will not be accepted.
The upcoming tire disposal events build upon the Senator’s past efforts to clean up our region and protect the public health, as well as the environment. In the past two years, she has hosted similar events in our region, where a total of nearly 12,000 tires were disposed of.
