Senator Robert Ortt (R,C,I-North Tonawanda) has invited Niagara Falls resident Ms. Barnette Burton, 63, to join him in Albany for a ceremonious declaration in honor of her son, Delancey Scott, 47, who froze to death in the November storm.
Burton will join Senator Ortt and other state senators in Albany this Monday to remember the 13 lives lost in the deadly snowstorm. She will leave from the Niagara Falls Amtrak station at 27th Street and Lockport Road in Niagara Falls at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26.
“I’m just beside myself; I’m so happy,” said Burton. “I knew the senator would be able to make something happen. He’s paying for the trip out of pocket, because I couldn’t afford to go. Now I can be there to honor of my son. Delancey was a giving, loving person and all-around nice guy. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for anyone.”
Sen. Ortt is sponsoring the November Winter Storm of 2014 resolution drawn up by Senator Tim Kennedy (D,I,WF-Buffalo).
“The deadly November storm was a tragic event where one life lost was too many,” said Sen. Ortt. “We wanted to do something to commemorate those who lost their lives to make certain they will never be forgotten, and to, in any small way we can, somehow help with the healing process.”
Sen. Ortt will meet Burton at the train station in Albany.
Burton says Scott served in the Army and Army National Guard before retiring. He lived in Niagara Falls and is survived by his daughter, brother, sister, mother and father.
We invite you to join us for a media interview and photo opportunity of Burton boarding the train. Please arrive at the Niagara Falls Amtrak station located at 27th Street and Lockport Road in Niagara Falls at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26. Senator Ortt will also be available for interviews.
