Addabbo, Miller Host Spring Recycling Event

Howard Beach, NY (April 25, 2016) On the heels of Earth Day last week, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and Assemblyman Mike Miller hosted their annual Spring Recycling Event at Forest Park on Sunday.

More than 1,000 vehicles looped through the Forest Park Bandshell parking lot to drop off unwanted items, including electronics and household goods, as well as personal documents to be securely shredded on site and properly recycled later. Residents came from all over Queens to safely dispose of televisions, computers, clothing, books, printers, dishes and other items not fit to be thrown out with garbage.

This Sunday’s event proved to be the busiest recycling event since Addabbo started hosting them in 2009. The more than 1,000 cars that came to drop off items contributed to an overall collection of more than 3 tons of paper, nearly 20 tons of electronics and two trucks full of household items for donation.

“This recycling event has grown significantly in popularity over the last few years, showing our community’s renewed commitment to protecting our environment,” said Addabbo, a member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee. “This weekend’s event brought in our largest volume to date, helping to prevent several tons of potentially harmful items from ending up in landfills and being harmful to the earth’s soil. I am proud to represent a community that is conscious of the needs of our environment and knows the importance of safely discarding unwanted items. I thank all our recycling vendors as well as Assemblyman Miller, the 102ndPrecinct and the Department of Parks and Recreation for their cooperation on our most successful recycling fair yet. I also extend a special thanks to Boy Scout Troop 139 of Howard Beach for volunteering to help out with yesterday’s event.”

“This spring’s recycling event was possibly the most successful one yet. I have seen strong participation for these recycling events and I was happy to see the volume of recycled goods this Sunday. This event sends a message to our community that we have ways to dispose of old household items efficiently. I want to thank all of those who participated and look forward to co-sponsoring the next recycling event in the fall,” said Assemblyman Mike Miller.

Addabbo and Miller are organizing another recycling event tentatively scheduled for Sunday, September 25, where electronics, paper and household items will all be collected.
