Senator Stewart-Cousins Offers Keynote Address at the Andalusia Middle School Graduation

Yonkers, NY – State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins gave a keynote address at the graduation ceremony for Andalusia Islamic School’s Middle School students. At the ceremony, Senator Stewart-Cousins congratulated the graduates and their families and spoke about the importance of education. Senator Stewart-Cousins is a former teacher and longtime advocate for excellence in education.
“It is always so great to look out and see a room full of young people determined to achieve academic excellence. These graduates are the future leaders of our state and we must do all we can to support them in their endeavors,” Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins said. “The Andalusia Islamic School is clearly a success to be proud of and a model that should be emulated throughout Yonkers and beyond.”
Andalusia Islamic School provides instruction for students pre-K through 12 in Yonkers, NY. Andalusia strives to prepare students for moral and material success through state standards-based approaches in a cutting edge and technology-rich environment that encourages Islamic morality, academic excellence, and parental involvement. The school maintains a state testing pass rate of 85% and students are affiliated with United Way and student-initiated volunteer programs like food drives and the Islamic Fashion Show.
Senator Stewart-Cousins concluded her remarks by quoting Dr. Seuss, saying, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”
