ALBANY, 06/18/16 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today commented on the close of the 2016 legislative session:
“Added measures to fight the heroin epidemic, mandate relief for area counties, improved access to breast cancer screenings, funding for improvements on our SUNY campuses, and meaningful ethics reforms are just a few of the major accomplishments I worked to secure during the closing days of the legislative session.
“These winning initiatives follow the adoption of a sixth consecutive on-time budget which kept spending within a self-imposed two-percent cap, included a $1.5 billion increase in school aid along while completely eliminating the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA), provided substantial resources to improve our upstate roads and bridges, and cut taxes substantially for the middle-class.
“The successes this year answer many of the concerns I hear from constituents every day and will help create new opportunities for all New Yorkers. Challenges remain however, and I look forward to continuing my strong partnerships with local elected officials, business leaders, and residents of the 51st Senate District to build upon this year’s record and advance issues critical to our future.”
