HUNDREDS TO GATHER FOR 4TH ANNUAL PIETRO’S FIGHT TO THE FINISH LINE 5K FUNDRAISER
Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will join The Scarso Family, and hundreds of Pietro’s Fight supporters, at a press conference tomorrow, Saturday, September 24th, at 9:00 AM, on the American Veterans Memorial Pier (Bay Ridge Avenue and Shore Road, Brooklyn) regarding the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the Exondys 51 (Eteplirsen)injection manufactured by Sarepta Therapeutics, the first drug approved to treat patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
The announcement of this major life saving advancement specifically for patients who have DMD, a confirmed mutation of the dystrophin gene amenable to exon 51 skipping, was made earlier this week. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a rare genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle deterioration and weakness. DMD effects 1 in every 3,500-5,000 boys and approximately 400 to 600 males are born each year with DMD in the United States.
Pietro’s Fight, named after Pietro Joseph Scarso, has raised more than $1 Million in the past four years which has been sent directly to the research of this drug.
