Ranzenhofer Announces $44,000 Funding For Amherst Libraries

Amherst, NY – State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer has announced $44,000 in state funding for public libraries throughout Amherst.  

“I am pleased to report that I have been able to obtain state funding for our libraries in Amherst.  Whether it is educational programs or information, our public libraries provide important services to residents.  This funding will help to enhance those services and ensure the Amherst Branches continue to be invaluable assets to our community,” said Ranzenhofer.

The total funding will be distributed to each of the four branches in Amherst:
•    Main Library at Audubon, $11,000;
•    Clearfield Branch, $11,000;
•    Eggertsville-Snyder Branch; $11,000; and
•    Williamsville Branch, $11,000. 

The funding will be used for hour-long, one-on-one computer classes for technology education and an updated wireless internet connection.  The training sessions help library patrons with how to use a tablet or personal computer, how to set up an e-mail account and other topics.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I wish to express our gratitude for Senator Ranzenhofer's continued support. Without these funds, the Amherst Libraries would be unable to offer one-on-one computer training classes. Our patrons learn so much from one-hour sessions with a librarian, and it's all thanks to Senator Ranzenhofer,” said Amherst Public Libraries Director Roseanne Butler-Smith.

The funding is part of the 2016-17 State Budget.  The funding is administered by the New York State Education Department.
