State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding farmers and others affected by the summer’s drought to attend a meeting taking place Wednesday, October 26th that will feature a special presentation by groundwater expert Dr. M. Todd Walter of Cornell University.

The meeting featuring Dr. Walter—a hydrogeologist who serves as Director of the New York State Water Resources Institute at Cornell University—will be held  at 1:00 p.m. in the first floor conference room of the Dulles State Office Building, 317 Washington Street in Watertown.

“As hardworking farmers across our region continue to feel the effects of the summer’s extremely dry conditions, many are wondering how long it may take for their wells to rebound,”  said Senator Ritchie, who serves as Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

“I am encouraging anyone affected by the drought to attend this presentation, ask questions and learn how to recover, as well as protect their operations in the future from drought.”

Dr. Walter’s visit is the result of suggestions from the Senator’s farm tours held over the summer on the drought’s impact on the agriculture industry.

Those interested in attending the October 26th meeting are encouraged to pre-register by calling (315) 782-3418.
