Senator Gallivan Announces Funding for National Federation of Just Communities of WNY

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) announced $100,000 in state funding to the National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York.  The grant will be used to support the organization’s First Time/Last Time Program, which provides an alternative to incarceration for youths aged 16 to 21 across Western New York. 

"The First Time/Last Time program has a remarkable success rate in curtailing criminal activity and reducing recidivism among firt time offenders," Gallivan said.  "By working with these young people, we can help ensure that their first experience with the criminal justice system is indeed their last."

Senator Gallivan is a former State Trooper and Sheriff of Erie County who serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction.  He secured funding for the First Time/Last Time Program through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.  

“Our counselors and staff work collaboratively with the local judicial system and law enforcement community to help area youths get back on the path of becoming contributing members of society,” said NFJC President Lana Benatovich.  “We thank Senator Gallivan for his continued support of the First Time/Last Time Program.”

Senator Gallivan announced the funding at NFJC’s Buffalo office and was joined by Benatovich, First Time/Last Time Program Director Susan Croglio, NFJC Board Chair-Elect Glenn Jackson and other staff members.  First Time/Last Time services include counseling for individuals and families, assistance with educational and vocational programs, shelter and referrals to drug and alcohol treatment programs.
