Murphy Gets Plaque: Saluted For His Support Of The Touro College Of Dental Medicine

VALHALLA, NY - At the grand opening of the Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York College in Valhalla, Senator Terrence Murphy was recognized for his support and dedication to the college and its vision. Senator Murphy was presented with a plaque by Touro's President, Dr. Alan Kalish, and received a rousing round of applause from a standing room only crowd that included Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino, Assemblyman Thomas Abananti, Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Michael Kaplowitz and the school's inaugural class of 121 students.

"It is truly an honor and a privilege to be here today. We all thank the administration and members of the board of the College for taking the risk to come here and build this beautiful state-of-the-art facility. This is right thing for the County and the State," said Senator Murphy. "Touro College is committed to educating the world's future leaders in health care, which will further strengthening the Hudson Valley's healthcare system. I am happy to be associated with this fine organization, which will continue to expand its educational services, providing patients in communities in the Hudson Valley and the Bronx with quality dental care."

As he presented the plaque to Senator Murphy, President Kalish said, "Senator Murphy has shown a great interest in the college from day one. He listened and learned what our needs were and helped support our growing educational enterprise. As our Senator, he has been a champion for important causes from Narcan training to combating the scourge of heroin and opioid abuse, to veteran's healthcare and developing legislation to protect our children. We sincerely appreciate the time and effort Senator Murphy has made in helping Touro College."

Touro College is New York State's first new college of dental medicine in nearly 50 years.
The need for this facility in New York was emphasized by the overwhelming response from applicants across the country. More than 2,000 worthy applicants applied for the program.

As a result, Touro College's inaugural class of 121 students will feature many of the brightest and most talented dentists in New York.
