ALBANY, NY - Following Governor Cuomo's State of the State and budget presentation for 2016, New York State Senator Terrence Murphy said the following:

Today Governor Cuomo initiated New York's budgetary process by releasing his proposed budget for the coming year and I look forward to a rigorous and thoughtful process to ensure we give everyone in our great State the opportunity to succeed.

At the end of this important process it is my hope and goal that we provide real incentives to create and retain jobs in our state.  Whether through needed infrastructure projects, such as the Governor's proposed redesign and reconstruction of portions of the Saw Mill Parkway, or easing the regulatory burdens on small businesses, it is time we open New York's doors to business.

Furthermore, we must deliver critical dollars to our local schools and restore the Gap Elimination Adjustment cuts this year.  Our kids have been victimized by poor financial decisions stemming from a time of when one party controlled both houses of our legislature.

Lastly, and for many most importantly, we must eradicate New York of the heroin epidemic.  This is an effort I am proud to lead on behalf of the thousands of people struggling with this deadly addiction.
