(Orchard Park, NY) – The Town of Orchard Park’s efforts to build a new multi-purpose, multi-generational community activity center took a big step forward with an announcement from State Senator Chris Jacobs of $500,000 in state funds to support the project.
“Consolidating recreational functions and programs into a new and expanded facility will improve recreational offerings for residents of all ages, reduce capital expenditures and generate new revenue,” said State Senator Chris Jacobs. “The multi-generational Community Activity Center at Brush Mountain Park is an exciting and visionary project that will reap great benefits for town residents and taxpayers for many years to come.”
For more than a decade, Orchard Park’s public and private sector leaders have been discussing how to best organize and grow their recreational service offerings as their community grew. These growing service needs combined with escalating capital and maintenance costs associated with the current older facilities led to the development of the planned 69,000 square foot facility.
“On behalf of all Orchard Park residents who are looking forward to the construction of our new community activity center, I want to sincerely thank Senator Jacobs for this tremendous support,” said Orchard Park Supervisor Dr. Patrick Keem. “This is one of the most impactful capital projects in Orchard Park in decades, and the Senator’s support is a critically important piece of the project’s financing,” Keem added.
The new facility at Brush Mountain Park will consist of a brand new senior citizens center that will improve access and safety for the more than 20,000 visits that occur annually, as well as enhanced programming enabled by a wide array of multi-purpose rooms. The community center component will consist of flexible game, activity and portable classrooms, as well as a multi-sport gymnasium that can be subdivided for concurrent uses.
The total cost of the project is estimated at $16,000,000 and in addition to the state investment secured by Jacobs will be supported by a capital campaign goal of $2,000,000. Town officials are estimating that revenues generated from new programs and rentals combined with savings in capital and maintenance costs, will exceed the operational costs of the facility by approximately $26,000 annually.
“I am very pleased to be able to secure such a significant level of support for a project of this magnitude,” said Jacobs. “Funding initiatives that significantly improve the delivery of local government services while dramatically improving the quality of life for town residents results in a great return on the investment of state dollars,” the Senator concluded.(Orchard Park, NY) – The Town of Orchard Park’s efforts to build a new multi-purpose, multi-generational community activity center took a big step forward with an announcement from State Senator Chris Jacobs of $500,000 in state funds to support the project.
