Carlucci, Jaffee & Zebrowski Announce State Budget Results for East Ramapo Students

ALBANY – East Ramapo has been faced with many challenges that are unique to the district.  To overcome those obstacles, Senator David Carlucci, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee and Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski have secured $3 million to be allocated at the discretion of the Commissioner of the State Education Department.  The funding will be used to restore full day kindergarten, music, art and other enhancing curricula as well as a monitor to oversee the district's finances and operations.  Carlucci, Jaffee and Zebrowski announced the district will also receive nearly $1 million more State aid than the previous year.  

"We must keep the momentum of recent successes in East Ramapo going and I have absolute confidence that will continue with oversight and additional funding from the State.  As a result of this budget and continued partnership with the Superintendent, teachers, faculty, the dedicated students and advocates throughout the community, our school district will have the oversight and funding it needs for success.  Our work is not yet done and I am happy to say that East Ramapo is moving in the right direction," Senator Carlucci said.  

Assemblywoman Jaffee stated, “This additional reimbursable aid with oversight is another significant step toward providing a quality education for the public school students in East Ramapo by expanding academic, enrichment and extracurricular opportunities, kindergarten programs, and student support services. I will continue working together with my colleagues, the advocates, parents, and the State Education Department to foster a positive environment, enhance collaboration, secure additional funding, and restore the trust we need to solve the unique issues facing the District.”

“The East Ramapo oversight plan has produced tangible results for students. Make no mistake, our work is not done; however, for kids in Full Day K and new art and music classes, the district is better today than it was a year ago. This extra funding will preserve these programs while the oversight will give parents, teachers and taxpayers more confidence and input into the district,” Assemblyman Zebrowski said.
