Increasing Child Care Tax Credit will Help Hudson Valley Families
January 7, 2017
New City, NY– Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) has sponsored S1661A* to increase the Child and Dependent care credit. This past week Governor Cuomo announced he will support the effort to double the child care tax credit that will benefit families in the Hudson Valley making between $50,000 and $150,000 per year. Families earning incomes between $50,000 and $150,000 per year would receive an average benefit that would reach $376 if adopted. The current average benefit is $169 per family.
“Lack of access to affordable, quality child care is a major impediment for parents to enter and stay in the workforce. Parents who are unable to afford licensed daycare providers are sometimes forced to choose between placing children with less reliable options, leaving them home alone, or worst case scenario; quitting a job. The Governor’s support for expanding the child care tax credit that helps make raising a family in Rockland or Westchester more affordable is very welcomed news,” Senator Carlucci stated.
