Senator Carlucci Funds Meals on Wheels Program Expansion & Delivers Meal to Home Bound Senior Citizen

CHESTNUT RIDGE, NY– In the face of President Trump's proposed budget cuts that would eliminate Meals on Wheels Funding, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) joined Meals on Wheels of Rockland President Don Hammond to announce a $25,000 grant to expand their' "Home Delivered Meals" Program, which delivers to Rockland residents who cannot shop or cook for themselves due to illness, physical disability or advanced age. Carlucci and Hammond delivered a meal to a 94-year-old, home bound senior citizen who is a part of the "Home Delivered Meals" program.
"Meals on Wheels provides more than just food to so many people in the community; they very often serve as a personal connection, safety check or vital link to the greater community that they aren't getting otherwise. Meals on Wheels will be able to increase the amount of people they serve as a result of this grant and push back against the false narrative from Washington that these programs don't have value to the community," Carlucci said.
The $25,000 grant that was included in the recently enacted State budget will allow Meals on Wheels to deliver 5,000 meals this year to home-bound individuals as part of this program.
"Thanks to the funding that Senator Carlucci has secured, we are able to provide almost 5,000 meals to seniors in need,” said Don Hammond. “These vital meals ensure that our seniors are living happy and healthy lives.”
