Senator Elaine Phillips Announces Nearly $12 Million In State Funding For Water Districts
October 6, 2017
Senator Elaine Phillips announced today that four water districts in the 7th District will receive nearly $12 million in state funding for infrastructure projects through New York’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act.
Carle Place Water District, Hicksville Water District and the Water Authority of Western Nassau County will each receive $3 million and the Roslyn Water District will receive $2.6 million through the state’s program.
“This crucial funding will aid the development of important infrastructure projects vital to protecting our drinking water,” Senator Elaine Phillips said. “The improvements made possible by this funding will safeguard our community’s water supply for residents and future generations and will help address any emerging water issues on Long Island. Additionally, the funding will also create new jobs for our region and save our hardworking taxpayers money through offsetting the costs.”
“We appreciate and thank Senator Phillips for her assistance to help make our infrastructure reliable and to meet all regulated requirements,” said Mick Tierney, Superintendent of the Water Authority of Western Nassau County.
“The Hicksville Water District Board of Commissioners is tremendously grateful to Senator Phillips for her continued persistence in fighting for our district throughout every step of the grant process. This funding from the state will help better our community, allow us to make critical improvements to our water infrastructure and saving millions in taxpayer dollars,” said William Schuckmann, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners – Hicksville Water District.
“The Carle Place Water District is pleased to be a recipient of the NYS Drinking Water Grant,” said Carle Place Water District Superintendent Timothy Doyle. “The Board of Commissioners appreciates Governor Cuomo and NYS for taking the initiative to help improve water quality and upgrade infrastructure. The grant will be used for our Treatment Water Facility project at Wells No. 1A & 2R, which includes VOC and nitrate removal along with increasing pumping capacity.”
“On behalf of the residents of the Roslyn Water District, I would like to thank all those who worked hard to make funding available for infrastructure projects through the New York's Water Infrastructure Improvement Act. Roslyn Water District is fortunate to have been offered the opportunity to apply for these funds and we are thankful for the award of $2,646,226 for a water treatment facility. We know that we are not alone in believing we have an obligation to assure there is a bountiful water supply for future generations. Thank you for assisting us to that end,” said Michael Kosinski, Chairman of the Roslyn Water District.
The largest single investment in clean water in New York’s History was made earlier this year as part of the 2017-18 final state budget. Under the historic investment of $2.5 billion, grants such as these are part of the $255 million in funding available for municipalities statewide to support critical water quality projects designed to ensure New Yorkers have access to clean, safe drinking water.
