Senator Elaine Phillips Co-Hosts Public Listening Session For Belmont Park Redevelopment Proposals
December 11, 2017
Senator Elaine Phillips recently co-hosted a public listening session for residents to hear from the two bidders, the New York Islanders and the New York City Football Club, who submitted proposals to revitalize Belmont Park.
“With the potential for redevelopment at Belmont Park that will create new jobs and contribute to community and economic growth, it continues to be important that residents have a voice and are well informed during the bidding process,” Senator Elaine Phillips said. “Providing an open dialogue between the bidders and the community is paramount to ensure the accepted proposal enriches all aspects of the surrounding community.”
The Empire State Development Corporation is responsible for deciding which of the two groups will be given approval to develop at Belmont Park.
The Islanders proposal includes an 18,000-seat arena, as well as a full service hotel, expansive retail area and community space. The New York City Football Club is proposing a 26,000-seat stadium, also with a large retail area, a community park and a 2-acre soccer facility.
