Senator Phillips Participates In September 11 Memorial Ceremonies Throughout The 7th District

Senator Elaine Phillips recently attended several September 11 memorial ceremonies throughout the 7^th District to commemorate and honor those who perished during the deadliest terror attack ever on United States soil.

Senator Phillips attended official ceremonies in the Town of North Hempstead, the Village of Manorhaven, the Village of Williston Park, and was the keynote speaker at the Village of Mineola event.

“We must never forget the men and women who died during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, as well as the first responders who, without hesitation, ran toward the danger to help save lives,” Senator Elaine Phillips said. “Immediately following the attacks, we united as one and put our differences aside to let our humanity and solidarity as Americans guide us. And now 16 years later, we must continue to stand united and commemorate the lives of the people we loved – our sisters, brothers and heroes.”

Senator Phillips announced during the ceremonies that legislation expanding unlimited sick leave benefits for New Yorkers who participated in the 9/11 response and recovery efforts was signed into law by the Governor.

“As elected officials it is our obligation to do all possible to honor the lives lost in the terror attacks and to protect those whose health has been compromised in the days, months and years following as a result of their heroic efforts during response and recovery efforts.   More than 40,000 individuals suffer from 9/11-related respiratory illnesses and this new law will ensure they receive the help they deserve and need,” said Senator Phillips said.
