State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) hosted a free movie screening of "Fences" at the Jamaica Multiplex on Friday, September 8, 2017 as part of the festivities for Senior Appreciation Month.

"I am proud to be participating in this year's Senior Appreciation Month,” Senator Sanders said. “It is important that we as a community recognize our seniors and show our unwavering commitment to them, and send a clear message that the best things in life come with age."

Some 200 seniors attended the movie, a drama written by August Wilson and starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. It is about a working-class African-American father who tries to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events in his life.”
