Sanders Hosts Successful Community Grant Workshop
December 6, 2017
Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) partnered with the Citizens Committee for New York City to host a Community Grant Workshop at the Multi-Service Center in South Jamaica on December 6, 2017.
Over thirty members from garden committees, civic organizations, tenant associations and block associations spanning areas from Springfield Gardens to the Rockaways arrived eager to learn how their respective groups could receive grant funding through the CCNYC, which has been helping New Yorkers improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods for over 40 years.
“We are placing local groups on the front lines of change by allowing them access to funding that can aid community leaders across my district,” Sanders stated. “Too often they are limited in terms of what they are able to accomplish, which is why I have hosted this grant workshop as a pathway to action”.
CCNY Director of Programs and Grant Instructor Arif Ullah who conducted the class stated that Brooklyn far surpasses the other boroughs in the amount of grant applications received, and he would like to see more participants coming out of Queens.
Some of the topics discussed at the event included ways to strengthen one’s chance to receive a grant, best practices when filling out an application and other resources offered by the CCNY such as technical assistance.
