“Enid’s long time devotion to helping others is admirable and makes her well deserving of the title, Woman of Distinction,” Sanders said. “Her commitment to the consistent betterment of her community is an inspiration.”
Enid Glabman was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and attended public school from Elementary through High School before moving to Bayswater, Queens in 1957. She later served as treasurer of the Women's League for Conservative Judaism for several years.
A Hunter College graduate with a BA in education, Enid taught in the NYC public school system for 31 years (21 in P. S. 104) and although currently retired, she now teaches Russian residents of JASA, conversational English. She also received an MA degree from Brooklyn College.
Demonstrating her commitment to charitable causes and her determination to, “always keep moving,” Enid successfully took on the challenge of walking in the Susan B. Komen Race for a Cure for many years, along with her family and fellow team members. She has always contributed to many causes, especially for animals and the environment.
Enid has been the recipient of several awards including the 2009 Sisterhood Honoree Award and was the president of Metropolitan-Inter Collegiate House Plan Association.
She has raised three wonderful children who also attended their local public schools in the Rockaways - P.S. 104, IS 53 and Far Rockaway High School. She currently meets monthly with a teachers' alumni group.
Enid stays engaged in community matters as she is currently the Chairperson of the Bayswater Civic Association and still attends many meetings of her local Community Board 14 as well as critical local community meetings.
