Senator Brook' Statement on NYS Budget
April 3, 2017
(Albany, New York) – Senator John E. Brooks (SD-8) released the following statement today regarding the 2017-2018 New York State Budget:
"I ran for office because of the corruption I found at home on Long Island -- but what I have found in Albany is disarray and complete dysfunction. The budget process over the past three days epitomizes that dysfunction, and the public should feel ashamed of their elected leaders' inability to reach agreements on meaningful issues that Long Islanders deeply care about such as tax reform and fully funded schools.
While we've passed a temporary measure to allow the government to remain open and provide critical services to Long Islanders, it's time to face the facts: the system is broken. New Yorkers deserve an honest and transparent budget process, and a budget that represents their ideals. I came to Albany to fight for lower taxes, to improve our schools and provide strong ethics reform, and I will continue to advocate for these values and results for Long Islander taxpayers."
