Senator Serrano Celebrates Black History Month

Senator José M. Serrano and Congressman José E. Serrano hosted their annual Black History Month Celebration at Hostos Community College. Attendants enjoyed live music, delicious food, and an award ceremony that honored those who paved the way for equality throughout their professional and personal lives. This year the esteemed honorees were New York City Public Advocate Letitia James, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, Renaissance Youth Center CEO Bervin Harris, and community leader Naimah Bilal.
“Many thanks to everyone who joined us for our Black History Celebration at Hostos Community College, and for helping us pay tribute to such an amazing group of honorees! Black History is American History, and we give thanks to all who work everyday to make our world a better and more caring place.”
Senator Serrano also joined Council Member Vanessa Gibson and Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner in co-hosting a Celebration of Black History Month at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. The well-attended event celebrated the legacy and spirit of the African American community and honored local community leaders. This year's honorees were James Robinson, Benjamin Warren, Kristina Fulton, Fitzroy A. Christian, Abdul “Sleep” Johnson, and Tara Brown Arnell.
