Murphy takes the Oath of Office

Peekskill, NY -With a roar of approval from an appreciative crowd, Senator Terrence Murphy was sworn into office for a second term on Sunday, January 8th at the Local 21 Plumbers and Steamfitters Hall in Peekskill. Re-elected in November by a landslide with nearly 60% of the vote, the Senator from Yorktown thanked his staff, friends and family for their unwavering support during his re-election campaign. He will continue to represent the 40th Senate District, which includes parts of Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties.
 
"I am honored to be back in a position to help improve the quality of life for residents of the Hudson Valley. Being your Senator is a great privilege and has put me in a position of trust. I promise to treat this position with the respect and honor it deserves," said Senator Murphy. "I secured a record amount of funding to support education, started initiatives to combat and eradicate the heroin epidemic, and passed legislation to take care of our veterans. I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead." 
 
In speaking about his future plans, Senator Murphy said, "The mission for my second term is clear: I want to make Albany accountable to you, the taxpayer. I want to make the Hudson Valley an affordable place to work. Let's win the war on as addiction. We have seen too many casualties already. Let's not forget about our veterans. They protected us in war; we need to take care of them in times of peace.  I want to see every child in the 40th Senate District get the kind of education that will make them productive residents in the Hudson Valley. And I will always keep in mind and work under the belief that there is no Democratic way, no Republican way, just the right way of doing things for the people of New York." 
 
Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian "Butch" Anderson provided the ceremony's opening remarks. "There are six pillars of character that our leaders should possess. Trust. Honesty. Integrity. Keeping your promises. Loyalty and accountability. Senator Murphy has all of these qualities in abundance," said Sheriff Anderson.
 
Yorktown Town Supervisor Michael Grace gave the invocation. Somers Town Justice Michael McDermott conducted the swearing ceremony and Rabbi Yehuda Heber of Chabad of Yorktown gave the benediction. The Peekskill High School City Singers capped the celebration by giving a pair outstanding performances that elicited standing ovations from the crowd.

Dr. Terrence Murphy is a small business owner and lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley with a deeply-rooted commitment to public service. His family moved to Yorktown in 1962, where he grew up as the youngest of six children. His father, Jack, a Navy Veteran who served in the Korean War, was a union and labor advocate for Con Edison for over 50 years. It was his father who taught Dr. Murphy the importance of family and community, which inspired Dr. Murphy to earn his Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Life University College of Chiropractic. He opened his own Health and Wellness Center in Yorktown Heights in 1999.
 
He was elected to the Yorktown Town Board in 2009 and re-elected in 2013. Among his many accomplishments was delivering the first back-to-back tax cuts in a generation and ushering in $250 million in economic development projects. He was first elected to the New York State Senate in 2014 and reelected overwhelmingly this past November.
