Senator Murphy Launches Drive to Aid Puerto Rico Recovery
October 10, 2017
SHRUB OAK, NY - When it comes to helping our fellow Americans partnerships come at every level. For New York State Senator Terrence Murphy, building the right partnerships to provide relief to those reeling from the ongoing recovery efforts in Puerto Rico have been a main focus. Today, in partnership with DHL and White Plains Lincoln, Senator Murphy announced Operation Aid Puerto Rico.
Senator Murphy said, "After receiving briefings from officials in Puerto Rico who are on the ground floor of the recovery effort, we are now at the point where we are being asked to provide specific items that they are in need of so they can get back on their feet. We have already staged successful drives for Texas and Florida and we can continue to be good neighbors for those in need."
The key items needed include flash lights, hand sanitizer, band-aids, first aid kits, disinfectant wipes, AM radios, baby supplies and anti-bacterial cream. DHL will be collecting and shipping goods collected on Friday, October 13th from the Senator's district office.
Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Maria as a Category 4 storm. Most of the island's 3.4 million residents remain without power or drinkable water. It was announced Tuesday by Governor Cuomo that 425,000 pounds of supplies donated by New Yorkers had arrived in Puerto Rico.
