(Long Beach, New York) -- The New York League of Conservation Voters awarded Senator Todd Kaminsky, Ranking Member of the NYS Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee, with a perfect score in their annual Legislative Environmental Scorecard. Kaminsky was also recognized as a “BiPartisan Leader” for having “collaborated with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to work on behalf of Long Islanders.” The NYLCV grades state legislators on their environmental voting record to ensure elected officials are committed to protecting the environment.
“I have made environmental protection and sustainability a priority during my time in the State Legislature,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky said. “We have a responsibility to promote renewable energy, ensure clean drinking water, breathable air and an overall healthy environment for Long Island’s future generations. I am proud to have supported and advocated for each of these important initiatives.”
The NYLCV Environmental Scorecard Grades are based on a scale of 0 to 100 and calculated by dividing the number of pro-environment votes or co-sponsorships by the number of bills a legislator was scored on. The scorecard is available here and a sampling of the legislation is noted below.
The inaugural State Legislative Environmental Scorecard is based on the NYLCV Eco Hot List, which details environmental legislation as it moves through the legislature. The senator supported a number of the priority bills on the Eco Hot List, including:
- Establishing a list of chemicals of high concern to children and requiring manufacturers to list those chemicals if used in their products (S6034)
- Establishing cheaper and greater access for New Yorkers to install and use renewable sources of energy (S688)
- Lowering the standards for elevated blood lead levels to reflect current scientific guidelines (S6472)
- Raising the standards for water-efficient plumbing and appliances in New York State (S4591A)
