Senator Larkin Announces New Correction Officer Exam

Senator William J. Larkin, Jr. (R-C-I, 39th District) joined the New York State Office of Corrections and Community Supervision to announce a new correction officer exam.

The New York State Department of Civil Service will be offering the exam on February 3, 2018. The filing deadline to take this exam is December 13, 2017.

“The filing deadline is fast approaching,” said Senator Larkin. “I encourage anyone interested in becoming a correction officer to take advantage of this opportunity.”  

According to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, a correction officer trainee’s starting salary is currently $40,590 per year. After six months, the salary increases to $42,695. After successful completion of the one-year traineeship, the salary increases to $48,889 per year.

Interested persons may apply on-line or download exam information and applications at the Department of Civil Service website at www.cs.ny.gov/exams. Additional information about the position of correction officer is also available at www.doccs.ny.gov.
