GENEVA, NY – As part of National Youth Leadership Month, Senator Pam Helming today invited local community members and educators to nominate students for the prestigious New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Award. The award recognizes and honors high school students who have demonstrated real leadership in their school and/or community.
“Our region is home to many outstanding young leaders who are deeply involved in their communities and serve as role models to their peers. The Youth Leadership Recognition Award program is a great way to recognize these students for their many accomplishments. Last year, I had the privilege of honoring 13 students from across the district at a ceremony in Wayne County. I look forward to reviewing this year’s submissions and recognizing each one of them with this prestigious award,” Senator Helming said.
The Youth Leadership Recognition Awards program focuses on recognizing well-rounded junior and senior students who excel not only academically, but also through extracurricular and volunteer activities. This year, the New York State Senate is offering four award categories including Academics, Athletics, Arts and Community Service. Chosen winners will receive a congratulatory letter and personalized certificate.
Community members and educators can nominate students by filling out the online nomination form on Senator Helming’s website (helming.nysenate.gov), attaching a recommendation letter and the student’s brief statements about their accomplishments. Nominations may come from teachers, administrators, counselors, or other school faculty.
Senator Helming will present the selected students with a certificate of recognition and share their story on her website. Participating schools are invited to nominate a maximum of five junior or senior students for the program. All nominations must be submitted online by April 6, 2018.
Senator Helming represents the 54th Senate District, which consists of Seneca and Wayne Counties, parts of Cayuga and Ontario Counties, and the towns of Lansing and Webster. For more information, please visit Senator Helming’s website, or follow @SenatorHelming on Facebook or Twitter.
