Senator Gallivan Announces Funding for Agriculture Education in Local Schools

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) is announcing $50,000 in grants to provide agriculture-based education programs in five school districts within the 59 State Senate District.  The funding supports programs such as the National FFA Organization, known as Future Farmers of America, and was included in this year’s New York State budget.

“Agriculture is the state’s leading industry and is so important to our economy and our way of life,” Senator Gallivan said.  “FFA and other programs give students interested in pursuing a career in agriculture the fundamentals they need to succeed and help to ensure the next generation of family farmers will keep the industry strong for years to come.” 

The following school districts will each receive $10,000 to support agriculture-based programs: Attica Central, Eden Central, Letchworth Central, Perry Central and Warsaw Central.

The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education. There are currently over 650,000 FFA members in grades seven through 12 who belong to FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Senator Gallivan joined his Legislature colleagues in voting to increase funding for agriculture in this year’s State Budget, bringing total funding to $54.4 million.
