Last week, Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I,Ref-North Tonawanda) and his Senate Republican colleagues were successful in allocating $40 million in additional state funding to assist Lake Ontario residents with flood relief recovery. In addition, legislation was passed to allow for the transfer of funds to assist residential needs. The $40 million adds to the $55 million previously approved by the Legislature and Governor, bringing the total relief funding to $95 million.
“Once again, the Senate Republicans led the way in funding relief efforts for the residents of Lake Ontario,” said Sen. Ortt. “My colleagues and I will not forget the promise the Governor made to residents when he visited the lake’s south shore. It’s up to the state to make good on this word.”
Although approximately $55 million had been agreed to for relief efforts, state agencies have lagged in releasing the funds. Ortt pointed out that he and his office continue to have daily conversations with constituents who have yet to receive much-needed relief.
“Every budget is tough, and this one was no different. But the Legislature did its job and obtained the recovery funds for these residents. Now it’s time to deliver the new and outstanding commitments we’ve made to residents along the shore.”
