Last week, Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I,Ref-North Tonawanda) presented $45,000 in education funds and public protection funds to four Niagara County community organizations. Joining Sen. Ortt for the event was Isaiah 61, the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier, the Mental Health Association of Niagara County and the Family and Children’s Services of Niagara Falls (Passages).
Many of the programs planned with this funding give back to the community by creating services that can be utilized by local residents. These programs include domestic violence shelter services, mental health first aid, and trauma-informed training. Also included in these plans is training for construction and carpentry education, which is aimed at teaching residents skills that will assist in the rebuilding of our community.
“Our community partners are responsible for providing life-saving services to residents across our district and ensuring that they receive the funding necessary to operate is crucial for the individuals in the areas they serve,” said Sen. Ortt. “Whether it be sheltering individuals from domestic violence, providing mental health and trauma counseling, or the teaching of new trades, these services are often life-changing, and I look forward to these organizations utilizing the funding and continuing to make a difference in the lives of so many.”
