SENATOR BIAGGI PRAISES PASSAGE OF THE CLIMATE LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY PROTECTION ACT
June 19, 2019
ALBANY, NY – Early Wednesday morning, the New York State Senate passed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CCPA), the most aggressive and comprehensive climate change legislation in the nation. The bill serves to address and mitigate the effects of climate change by drastically cutting greenhouse gases, diverting the state’s energy reliance to renewable sources, and creating green jobs to promote environmental justice across New York State.
State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx/Westchester) issued the following statement:
“For my district in the Bronx, where asthma death rates are three times higher than the rest of the United States, the passage of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CCPA) is about more than addressing the effects of climate change – it’s about combating a public health crisis stemming from decades of pollution and poor air-quality. I thank Majority Leader Andrea-Stewart Cousins and Senator Todd Kaminsky for leading the charge on this issue – I’m proud to be part of a majority that puts the health of our communities and the safety of future generations above all else.”
