Statement By Senator Brad Hoylman on Court Decision Regarding Vaccination law
July 12, 2019
NEW YORK, NY – Senator Brad Hoylman (D/WF-Manhattan) issued the following statement in response to the Albany County Supreme Court’s denial of a temporary restraining order sought by Children’s Health Defense, an anti-vaccination group, to halt the implementation of Hoylman’s legislation (S2994-A/A2371-A) to end non-medical exemptions from the state’s mandatory vaccination law for children attending schools or daycare.
Senator Hoylman said: “Science and public safety has prevailed once again. As the epicenter of this year’s measles outbreak it was incumbent upon New York to follow the gold standard set by California and several other states in eliminating non-medical exemptions. I’m pleased that this important law will continue to be implemented and enforced across our State, and remain confident that the law will ultimately be upheld as constitutional, consistent with over a century of federal and state jurisprudence. New Yorkers are safer as a result.”
