State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) hosted a successful hazardous waste disposal event at Calvary Baptist Church in Jamaica on Saturday, June 15, 2019.

“I am pleased that so many people chose to take part in this event,” Sanders said. “I am proud to be able to provide this service which is one small way we can work toward a greener, more sustainable environment.”

Sanders' office assisted dozens of constituents in disposing of potentially dangerous waste in a safe and responsible way. Not only is this better for the environment, but it helps people avoid getting fined for throwing these items out with the regular trash, which is no longer allowed. Three trucks hauled away items that included TVs, computers, laptops, DVD players, phones, paint, plaster, medical waste and much more.

We would like to thank our partners Lower Eastside Ecology Center and the NYC Department of Sanitation for helping to facilitate this event. We would also like to thank Calvary Baptist Church for allowing us to use their parking lot to host the event.
