Senator Sanders Presents Youth Leadership Awards and NYSABPRL Scholarships to Deserving Students

Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Far Rockaway, Rochdale Village) presented awards and scholarships to select community youth at a ceremony at his District Office in South Ozone Park on Monday July 1, 2019.
“You are a blessing to this community and I know you will go on to do great things,” Sanders said. “It is my hope that you will learn from the recognition you have received today and come back to your respective neighborhoods to inspire others after you have achieved success in your own lives.”
Some of the recipients were high school undergraduates who received a NYS Senate Youth Leadership Award for their academic achievements and others were new high school graduates, who have been accepted into colleges and each received a scholarship check in the amount of $2,000 from the NYS Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators.
The Leadership Award recipients are:
Nancy Diaz Martinez - resident of Far Rockaway - student at the Academy of Medical Technology
Dennis A. Kwarteng - resident of Far Rockaway - student at Queens High School for Information, Research and Technology
Mariah Omadutt - resident of Jamaica - student at Richmond Hill High School
Rifath Siddique - resident of Ozone Park - student at Richmond Hill High School
Dadrian Cole - resident of Jamaica - student at John Adams High School
Jannatun Nessa Saima - resident of Richmond Hill - student at Richmond Hill High School
The scholarship winners are:
Olga Henriquez - resident of Ozone Park - graduate of Richmond Hill High School
Asfiyah Shafi - resident of Far Rockaway - graduate of Academy of Medical Technology
Shanic Agard - resident of South Ozone Park - graduate of Academy of Medical Technology
Those who could not attend the ceremony will have their awards mailed to them.
