Skoufis Announces Route 9W Bridge Rehabilitations in Cornwall, Highlands, and New Windsor

Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) announced seven bridges along Route 9W will be rehabilitated or replaced in the coming months, the culmination of years of lobbying the Department of Transportation for these necessary repairs. All seven bridges are in the towns of Cornwall, Highlands, and New Windsor.

Earlier this year, Senator Skoufis also announced Route 32 maintenance in New Windsor and $1.8 million in funding to resurface Route 32 from Timber Trail to Maple Road in the Town of Woodbury.

“Many of our bridges are crumbling and in desperate need of rehabilitation,” said Senator Skoufis. "Revitalizing these seven bridges at key points along Route 9W will create a safer drive and, in some cases, pedestrian experience, for local residents and visitors alike. Improving our infrastructure remains a top priority for me in the state Senate as there's still lots of work left to do.

Richard Massimi, Board Member of the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce said, "I have been working for years with Senator Skoufis to get these bridges rehabilitated on Route 9W. I thank him for his work in ensuring Hudson Valley's infrastructure is in proper condition. I look forward to the construction beginning this spring to have a smoother ride for our community going forward." 

The list of seven bridges include:

• Angola Road bridge over Route 9W in the Town of Cornwall
• Willow Avenue bridge over Route 9W in the Town of Cornwall
• River Road bridge over Route 9W in the Town of New Windsor
• Four Route 9W overpasses in Cornwall, Highlands, and New Windsor, including along Quaker Avenue
   

All seven bridges will be repaired or replaced in 2019 at an approximate cost of $23.6 million which Senator Skoufis helped secure in the state budget. Earlier this year, Skoufis advanced some targeted Route 32 maintenance in New Windsor and secured $1.8 million to fully repave Route 32 along downtown Highland Mills.
