Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently had the opportunity to visit with a group of students at Selden Middle School to discuss his role in the New York State Senate.  The visit was arranged after Senator Flanagan’s office received issue-based letters from the students in the 7th grade American History classes of teacher Lisa Arce.

Following a quick opening in which Senator Flanagan gave students an overview of how New York State Government operates, Senator Flanagan answered a number of questions about a wide-range of state issues including gun safety, environmental protection and legalizing marijuana.  He also held a mock vote on legislation to let the students experience what it was like to be a member of the state legislature.

“I truly appreciated the students reaching out to my office to provide their input and thought it would be great to meet with them personally to discuss the issues important to them.  I thank the students and Ms. Arce for taking the time out of their day to join me for what was a truly enjoyable dialogue.  It is my hope that they learned a great deal and know how important their voice is in our state’s future,” stated Senator Flanagan.
