Before the Thanksgiving holiday, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. visited the Cross Bay Seashell Fish Market in Howard Beach to pardon a lobster in commemoration of the first landing of the Mayflower in Provincetown Harbor in Massachusetts. It is known that the pilgrims ate lobster — not turkey — at the first Thanksgiving. Pat Marotta, co-owner of Cross Bay Seashell Fish Market, helped Addabbo pardon the lobster.
The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum (PMPM) oversees Provincetown 400 as a committee of the board of the PMPM, the initiative whose mission is to oversee the commemorations in 2020 of the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first landing in Provincetown and the signing of the Mayflower Compact in Provincetown Harbor. The word commemoration is used regarding the quadricentennial to recognize the importance of the relationship between the colonists and the Wampanoag nation.
